Desa Skudai Metal Theft

Residence in Tmn Desa Skudai complains of metal grid drain cover being stolen from the front of their homes. The malady of metal and steel thieving from public and private properties which plagued the nation is now spreading in Johor Bahru.

Missing drain covers have caused a woman in Kinrara to fell into the drain in February this year.

Scrap metal thieves have brought down two transmission towers (high-tension electrical wire pylon) in the state of Sabah in a space of less than two weeks (Apr 21 & 29) last month have caused 90% of the state experiencing major power blackout.

At the rate the crime is going, the authorities here are worried that the situation which hit Sabah may occur in the peninsular.

Last year, I had the misfortune of having my spare tyre being stolen right in my compound in broad daylight while some neighbours had their incense bowls, made of metal, stolen. It is said that at daytime, tell anyone who calls out to you or knocks the gate for you to go away. This is to inform them you're at home. If you ignores the call, the thieves would jump into your house and take away things they saw in the first place. At nightime, never go out alone when you hear running water from the tap. Make sure the lights are on, had people watch over you and that you carry a weapon to close the tap.

Mr. Alohan, a frequent contributor of materials and stories to this blog, had tied the metal grid to a pole or stick to prevent the cover from being lifted easily, thus, avoided the theft. It will be a matter of time before the thieves overcome this simple preventive measure.
